What is feminine sales psychology?

  • Selling to women is not the same as selling to men.

I realized this when the copywriting styles I was trained in weren't working for the audiences I was writing for.

Sales psychology is different for women, NB, and LGBTQ+ people.

(Who make up a significant portion of the markets, just saying)

Most of the traditional sales tactics are designed to sell to men.

    Things like:

    Pain points (which of course
    Urgency and stress
    Pushing and convincing

These dopamine-driven tactics work for men because men like being stressed out.

    They get off on it.

Or maybe this is the only time men get acknowledged and validated for their pain.

Women, on the other hand —

(This probably also applies to NB, trans, and LGBTQ people, but I’ve mostly only tested this on women audiences)

    – are already stressed out enough.

Society has conditioned women to constantly feel that we’re “not enough,” so we’re already well aware of our “pain points.”

Pressing women’s pain points in marketing feels like pouring salt in an open wound and then rubbing it in with hot sauce all over your fingers.

Instead, women need to be shown a world of possibilities that activates oxytocin.

Yes, you can bring up their pain, just not in the same way that you would for an audience of cis male buyers.

And yes, you can still sell with authority and on a timeline.

But anyone who is selling to women+ audiences needs to understand this:

women are much less likely to yes unless they feel like they can safely say no.

This topic goes way deeper than just marketing tactics.

I’m still learning a lot about this, but since I’ve understood some of the key differences, I’ve been getting better results for my clients.
